PROGRAMS AND EVENTS
Some of the many programs offered are: storytelling, book groups, drop-in craft programs and a variety of performers. All programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Winchester Public Library and are free of charge.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on Tuesday, June 12th and continues through the first week of August. The printed schedule for events that complement the Summer Reading Program will arrive the last week of May. You can look for the online schedule a week earlier.
Wednesday, May 16th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. - “Kings, Khans, Emperors, Queens, and Crowns"
Children age 4+ can drop into the Storytime Room for crafts for recognizing rulers and royalty. We supply materials and a few ideas, you supply your imagination.
Thursday, May 24th at 3:00 p.m. - Sarah Salerno Thomas presents the Singing Ringing Tree
The program will be in the Meeting Room. Audience members play all 12 characters in this interactive play about a spoiled Spanish princess. Tickets for children age 5 and up are available in the Children's Room.
Sticks, Bricks, and Building Tricks: A Model Building Contest - Create a model of a structure from a children's book - Deadline is May 30
You may use any material: legos, toothpicks, lincoln logs, straws, or anything else. Email a photograph of your structure to winchesterchildrens@gmail.com. Entries must be received by May 30th. This is a contest for children 12 and under. First Prize is a LEGO Castle Brickmaster set to make 13 Amazing Lego models. STORYTIME SCHEDULE
Storytime will end the last week of May. The Summer Reading will begin in June.
Preschool Storytime for Children ages 3-5
Preschool Storytime Club for children ages 3-5 is offered at two sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays, at 10 and 11 a.m. There are still spaces available in the 11 a.m. sessions. Please Register in the Children's Room.
Step into Storytime for Children for age 2-3 takes place on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Step into Storytimes for children ages 2-3 meets on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. This 20-25 minute drop- in program features three or four short books and one ot two fingerplays and is a good next step for graduates of Pattycake Place.
Pattycake Place
Pattycake Place, for ages birth – 2 years, takes place every Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Picture Book Room.
This popular program encompasses songs, fingerplays and stories, followed by age-appropriate toys, music and lots of sharing. Drop in.
On May 3 there will be a special Sing-along with Robert Carter in the Meeting Room instead of the usual Pattycake Place program.
ONLINE RESEARCH DATABASES & eRESOURCES
Below are a list some of the databases which will be most useful for children. Reference librarians can help you determine the best databases for a project and help you use them. Starred * titles are paid for by the Winchester Library; you must be a Winchester resident to use them from home, but they are available for everyone to use on the library's computers. You need to use a Minuteman Library card to access the databases.

PebbleGo
PebbleGo includes hundreds of animals, audio and video clips, and educational games. PebbleGo features easy to-use searching tools and introduces early learners to database and research concepts. Access hundreds of animal articles, educational games, and learning activities from school or from home.
Stream children's books through TumbleBookLibrary
TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks – animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you. (This resource is available for use by everyone on the Library’s computers and also from home for Winchester residents.)

OUTREACH TO SCHOOLS
One of the missions of the Children's Department is to maintain a close relationship with the schools. The librarians work with the school librarians and the teachers to identify materials that will enhance and enrich their classroom work. Unique teacher services include:
- Librarians will create "Teacher Packs" on given themes to extend the curriculum
- Librarians will give tours of the library, tailored to specific age groups
- Visits to the school can include special programs, booktalks and storytimes

Library Cards
Children may obtain their first library card at age 4. As they are responsible for the materials borrowed on the child's card, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign the registration form. In addition, the adult must provide identification showing his/her name and current address.
Computers are available in-house for Internet access, children's games and word processing.
