The Endowment Fund:

Dear Library Supporters,

We are asking you to consider making a gift to the Winchester Library Endowment Fund. Gifts to the Winchester Library Endowment Fund are tax deductible under federal and state law.

The demand for Library services has never been greater. In the past four years the circulation of library materials has risen by 43%. In 2003, we logged over 286,000 visits to the Library. By the end of 2004, we will have our two millionth visitor since the renovation was completed in November, 1996. Information technology makes rapid progress but the Town's operating budget is hard pressed to meet basic technological needs.Town budget stresses are predicted to continue into the foreseeable future. In order to maintain an excellent Library and support the quality of service we have come to expect from our Library, we must provide for a private source of income that will enrich our programs and services beyond those afforded in the basic operating budget.

This year the Endowment Fund will help provide wireless computer technology that will expand Internet access to patrons with laptops anywhere in the adult services area of the building. The Fund will be used to enhance the appearance and comfort of the Homework Center furnishings, making the Library more welcoming to students after school. A local historian and Librarian will review and improve the local history and genealogy collections, increasing the value of our unique resources to patrons and researchers. This is the beginning of the enrichment that the Endowment Fund will continue to bring our community Library in the years ahead.

There are naming opportunities for gifts of $100,000 and above. Donations of $2,000 or more are recognized with an inscription on the Winchester Library Endowment Fund Plaque in the Reference Reading Room and with two tickets to the Endowment Party. All donations to the Winchester Library Endowment Fund are recognized in the Library's donor book, on permanent display under the plaque.

The Winchester Library Endowment Fund is a long term investment in the future of our community and its Library. Your generosity will provide stability in difficult times, help us maintain excellent services, and create an even better Public Library for the future of Winchester.

We thank you for your past support and hope that you will consider joining those who are making an investment in the future of our Library.
