WINCHESTER READS
This year’s WINCHESTER READS book is Hope’s Boy: A Memoir by Andrew Bridge. Click on the title to request a copy. Copies of the book are also available in the Library and at a discounted price at BookEnds.
WINCHESTER READS is sponsored by the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation, with additional support from BookEnds, the Friends of the Winchester Public Library, the Winchester Multicultural Network, Winchester Public Schools and enthusiastic volunteers.
Two WINCHESTER READS events are scheduled for the fall. On Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Jack Williams of WBZ-TV will talk about "Wednesday’s Child" and its efforts to find adoptive homes for special needs children at the Jenks Center. Then, on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., Hope’s Boy author Andrew Bridge will discuss his book at the McCall Middle School Auditorium. We hope you will join us for these special events.
Seventeen Years of ROAR!!
To celebrate its one hundred years of service to the community in 1993, the Winchester Co-operative Bank chose to fund a library program to provide library outreach to the residents of Winchester. Thus, R.O.A.R. (Rush Out And Read!) was born. The summer teen R.O.A.R. Corps' middle and high school students read aloud to children at the playgrounds, swim clubs, Recreation Department camps, and beaches in Winchester. On One Summer Day at the Library ...
847 patrons come through our doors between 9:30 am and 9:00 pm.
Early in the morning we receive 14 bins from other libraries: bins filled with materials that our own patrons requested from other libraries, and our own materials that are being returned to us. We send out 9 bins of items that were requested by other libraries.
Staff members retrieve 216 items from the shelves to fulfill requests from our own patrons and from other libraries.
739 items are on hold shelves waiting to be picked up by patrons who requested them.
CIRCULATION:
Adults and teens check out 931 books, 143 DVDs, 58 books on CD and 7 Playaways
466 children's hard cover books, 43 children's books on CD, 1 children's Playaway and 87 children's DVDs are checked out
We circulate 26 electronic games in the adult department and 9 in the Children's Department

Afternoon Book Club: Will meet next on Tuesday, September 21 to discuss Loving Frank: a novel by Nancy Horan
The Second Tuesday Women’s Reading Group will meet again September 14 to discuss The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.
The WPL Book Discussion Group will meet again September 20 to discuss Back Bay by William Martin.

Stuffed Animals Sleepover at the Library on July 28
On July 28th, the Winchester Public Library continued its celebration of the 2010 summer reading program, Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales, with a stuffed animal sleepover! Children of all ages brought their favorite stuffed animals to the library for a pajama storytime. After the stories ended, the children tucked in their animals for a sleepover at the library!
The next morning, the children picked up their animals, along with photos detailing their nighttime adventures. More

The Library will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 6.
Fall weekends: September 11 will be the first Saturday the Library will be open this fall; October 3 will be the first Sunday.
