Pride month celebrates the past and ongoing contributions and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community. June was designated as Pride month because it was in this month in 1969 that the Stonewall riots occurred, spurring a new level of activism in promoting the civil rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. During Pride month, LGBTQ+ people, families, friends, and allies amplify their celebration and uplift not just individuals, but the cumulative contributions made to the broader community in furthering tolerance, justice, and equality for all people. There has been a steady expansion of books that celebrate people and events that are part of this community, from celebrities and renowned events, to the quotidian lives with family and friends. Here are some Pride reads for you!
