Not too far from Winchester are four wonderful gardens that are worth a day trip. These gardens offer some of the most picturesque environments in which to walk, picnic and enjoy nature. They have been built to be accessible to strollers or wheelchairs. Most have water features and native plants, daylilies, rhododendrons, formal and informal plantings and all offer educational programs for adults and children about gardening and the environment. Most have summer concerts. Garden in the Woods showcases New England native plants in a naturalistic setting. At Heritage Museums and Gardens, depending on the time of year, you can enjoy rhododendrons, day lilies or hydrangeas in bloom or visit several museums that include a collection of antique cars, antique toys and a carousel. New England Botanical Garden at Tower Hill, showcases a variety of gardens. Stroll through the woods, look for fairy houses. Enjoy formal and informal gardens and sculptures. Massachusetts Horticultural Society at Elmbank offers a variety of gardens including a whimsical children’s garden. Take a daytrip to one of these gardens and enjoy nature at its best.
