Black History Month

|

Black History Month is celebrated in February, which is a way to honor the history and achievements of the Black community in this country. Since 1915, people have been recognizing the month as a time for celebration and learning. In our current times, it is especially important to learn about the history of our country and those that have stood up against oppression.

Black Lives, Black History, and People of Color should be part of the conversation every month. This month, especially to honor Black History Month, we’ve compiled a list of books for kids and families that include history about the civil rights movement, feature black characters, and include themes of the modern civil rights movement, Black Lives Matter. All month long, the Children’s Room will have a display featuring civil rights heroes, both past and present, and a variety of books about the lives and achievements of African Americans.
