Are you interested in alternative, integrative, or naturopathic medicine? The books in this blog post will help explain these treatment terms. There is a range of medical therapies that are not regarded as orthodox by medical professionals. These “complementary” or “alternative” modalities are treatments that are used along with, or instead of, traditional or mainstream therapies. Naturopathy is a system of alternative medicine based on the theory that diseases can be successfully treated or prevented without the use of drugs. Natural remedies are used to help the body heal itself. Practitioners embrace homeopathy, using therapeutic herbs, massage, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, hypnoses, reiki, tai chi, yoga, botanicals and the like. The goal is to treat the whole person or the mind, body, and spirit, and thereby to heal the root causes of an illness and not just the symptoms. All of the books listed here are in the Winchester Public Library’s collection.
