Would you like to listen to the music of iconic singer/songwriters who really hit their mark in the 1970s? Try one of these suggestions from Elaine the Reference Librarian. Court and Spark.  Artist: Joni Mitchell. This album, which contains a fusion of folk, pop, and jazz, is one of Joni Mitchell’s best known albums. (Also instantly available on Hoopla.

Greatest Hits.  Artist: James Taylor.  Greatest Hits remains a good sampler of Taylor’s more popular early work. (Also instantly available on Hoopla.)

Tapestry. Artist: Carole King. The Tapestry record is intensely emotional, and one of the most successful albums in pop music history.

Classic Hits. Artist: Jim Croce. Jim Croce was at the height of his popularity when he died in a plane crash at the age of 30. The 20 songs on this album contain the core collection of his masterful songs.

The Very Best of Judy Collins.  Artist: Judy Collins. The Very Best of Judy Collins is a good overview of her journey from folksinger to singer/songwriter to pop diva. 

The Best of Leon Russell. Artist: Leon Russell. Leon Russell’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is celebrated with a collection of sixteen of his career-defining tracks, including collaborations with Willie Nelson and Elton John. 

The Very Best of Glen Campbell. Artist: Glen Campbell. This album is classic Glen Campbell. 

Tea for the Tillerman. Artist: Cat Stevens. This album has catchy pop melodies that are easy to sing along to. (Also instantly available on Hoopla.)

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Artist: Elton John. This album is a testament to Elton’s ’70s power as a star and a musician. (Also instantly available on Hoopla.)

The Very Best of Linda Ronstadt. Artist: Linda Ronstadt. Sixteen of the 21 songs on this album were culled from Linda’s 1970s heyday.

The Best of Carly Simon. Artist: Carly Simon. Carly Simon was among the pop royalty of the singer/songwriter era of the early ’70s. This album collects her most popular songs of the first five years of her solo career.  (Also instantly available on Hoopla.)
