Frozen Flowers, Fairy Houses, and Fun Treats!

| | , , ,

Have you ever made a fairy house? If you’ve signed up for our Virtual Kid’s Summer Reading Program, you might just get the opportunity (if you haven’t signed up you, you definitely should!!)! Once they move in, those fairies might want to add additional decorations… so why not leave some for them to find?

Pick small flowers or individual petals from a larger flower and put them in an empty ice cube tray. Fill the tray with water and freeze overnight. In the morning, you’ll have frozen flowers – perfect to add to your fairy houses on a hot summer day! The original idea for frozen flowers came from our friend over at Tiny Kitchen!

All that work is bound to make you thirsty… why not make some fancy water to go along with your fancy fairy house? When you slice the tops off of strawberries, don’t throw them out (or compost them) right away – put them in a jar of water in the fridge. A few hours later, strain the water through a sieve to get delicious, refreshing strawberry water! You can also add slices of lemon or sprigs of mint.

*Grown-up tip… maybe choose to use edible flowers or herbs and add those ice cubes to drinks. You can also freeze lemon juice or slices, to add to lemonade, and coffee, to add to iced coffee.
